Winter

I was out visiting my home town of Elkhorn, and I was inspired to shoot some footage with my mom. We trekked out to a field in -40 degree weather, and shot some fantastic footage against the late afternoon sunshine. It was damn cold, and we were frozen, but the footage looks amazing.

After the shoot, I got my mom to recite some of her favourite winter poems, and I’ll be pairing the poetry with the footage we shot together. The end result will be contemplative and beautiful, an ode to the two things that have always been a source of inspiration; Winter and my mom. Here are a couple of screenshots.

Stephanie & Justin

This was so fun to do! Here is a video I produced for a wonderful couple on their wedding day. Stephanie and Justin were a pleasure to work with, and I’m so happy with the end result (and so were they!).  I shot and edited the entire project with my ever reliable Canon 7D.

Hema & Nick

I shot this wedding video this past summer, and it turned out so beautifully. The weather was perfect and the couple was so gracious, it really was an awesome day to be a part of. The music in the video is an original piece composed and performed by the groom, and the video was shot with my ever handy Canon 7D and edited by myself.

Winnipeg Underground Film Festival

1961 Screen Shot

My film “1961” is being screened at the Winnipeg Underground Film Festival (WUFF) this evening.  From reels of 8mm film, purchased from an estate sale, my film “1961” is a found footage short that plays with the conventions of home movies, and the physicality of the film reels itself.

To create my film, I projected the 8mm reels onto a yellow wall to create a distinctly washed out look, while changing the speed of the projector, manipulating the reels, to create a uniquely smooth and yet choppy image.  I used my Canon 7D to record the images of my experimentation.

WUFF is an annual showcase for contemporary experimental film + video here in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  My film is apart of the opening night program The 90 Second, where all the films screened are 90 seconds or less.  It’s a jam packed showcase that reflects the energy and excitement of the festival itself, and I’m excited to have my film a part of this program.

Mayfair Farms

This summer I purchased an “Opteka SteadyVid SV-HD Camera Stabilizer” http://amzn.com/B00DRGQETA I decided to try it out when we went raspberry picking at the Mayfair Farms, and I like the end result. The stabilizer can be a bit tricky when you first set it up, but once you get it balanced it works well, and you can get some nice smooth shots.

Dan & Stacey

This past August I spent the day with Dan and Stacey, shooting video for their wedding day. I told them I would simply observe and shoot footage as I travelled around with them. No direction from Dan or Stacey, just their trust that I would create something special for them. Everything turned out better than I imagined, and I’m really happy with the end result.
