Portrait Pink: Gouache

I’m accustomed to watercolour, but sometimes I venture into gouache territory. I love that gouache has the flexibility of watercolour and the same vibe, so it always feels familiar when I’m on the paper with it. More over I love the opaqueness of the finished product. This piece was done in portrait pink, so a very light tone, and gouache really suits it! The textures are incredible and I love how the light pink doesn’t fade away.

Studio time

It’s an overcast and gloomy day here in Winnipeg, so it’s the perfect time, to spend some time at my studio. A burst of colour is the perfect way to cut through the dreariness. Painted these in acrylic on canvas paper.

Studio time

This week I spent an evening at the studio, working with watercolours in a vibrant primary blue. After a long stressful day, I’m grateful to be able to sit down put my brush to the canvas and focus on being creative. It’s incredibly grounding, bringing me into the moment and letting the stress of the day fade away.

Process

I was down at my studio the other night, working on a monochromatic watercolour in Ochre Yellow. So far it’s looking great. I have 2 more steps to apply before it’s done, so I’m posting some pics from the process of putting it together.

Studio

In Summer 2015, I took over a studio space in Winnipeg’s iconic Exchange District. Located at 75 Albert Street in Winnipeg Manitoba, it really is a fantastic location, the view out of my windows is beautiful, and having the constant hum of downtown around me is golden. It’s been a great space that is inspiring, and gives me room to be creative. From writing to painting, my work is done within my studio walls. I am lucky to have this space, and i’m super excited for all the work i will be producing out of the studio this year.

Art

While film is my primary medium, painting is my oldest. Starting when I was young, I mentored under my mom, Vivian Paschke, an established rural Manitoban artist.  I work with a variety of materials, but I tend to gravitate towards watercolors and acrylic.
